Rapid Impact Survey Training - August 2026 (08/18/2026)

We are planning to have a Rapid Impact Survey (RIS) Exercise on Saturday, September 12. In order to participate, it is required that you have had the Rapid Impact Survey (RIS) training.

We will offer two opportunities for this training. The first is Tuesday, Aug. 18 and the second is Thursday, August 20. You need only to attend one of them - both sessions will cover the same material. Both will be at Public Works Operations (PWO) from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

For those who have had the training in previous years, please plan to attend because 1) the protocol has changed from contacting Police Dispatch to notifying the Issaquah Communications Support Team (ICST) to begin your survey and 2) the manual has been updated with the new protocol and zone instructions/maps. You will receive the new information which can be inserted into your current RIS binder.

For those who have not had previous training, you will learn the protocol for conducting an RIS and receive a manual with the protocol, forms, and zone instructions/maps. This manual is yours to keep and have handy in case of a real-world event.

If you would like to attend one of the two offerings, please register by selecting one of the two sessions. You may have to scroll down to Options to find the select button, but it is a required entry.

If you have any questions, email Bob Otis. Thanks to all for your participation.

Rapid Impact Survey Exercise (09/12/2026)

The Rapid Impact Survey (RIS) is one of the most important services that the CERTs provide to the city. While first responders are busy attending to fires or unrest, the CERTs may be available to provide significant situational awareness in the event of an earthquake, fire or other widespread incident. This is the purpose and objective for the RIS.

A Rapid Impact Survey exercise will be held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 12. Briefly, with training, CERTs can find a buddy, notify the EOC, receive a zone assignment and run an infrastructure triage for that zone. At the completion of the survey, this information is given to the IMT at the EOC for their consideration.

Training is a requirement for this exercise, and we are planning two sessions, one on August 18 and one on August 20. A separate notice and registration for the training is on the website. If you have had previous RIS training, you should plan to attend one of these to receive updates on both a new protocol and a manual insert. If this is your first RIS training, you will receive a manual at the training.

The Issaquah Communications Support Team (ICST) will be activated for this exercise and will be an integral part of the RIS. More information will be provided during the training.

If you would like to participate, please register for the exercise and training. Note again, the registration for training is a separate event from the exercise and can be found on the website.

If you have questions, please email Bob Otis for more information. Thank you for your participation.
