Rapid Impact Survey Exercise (09/12/2026)

The Rapid Impact Survey (RIS) is one of the most important services that the CERTs provide to the city. While first responders are busy attending to fires or unrest, the CERTs may be available to provide significant situational awareness in the event of an earthquake, fire or other widespread incident. This is the purpose and objective for the RIS.

A Rapid Impact Survey exercise will be held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 12. Briefly, with training, CERTs can find a buddy, notify the EOC, receive a zone assignment and run an infrastructure triage for that zone. At the completion of the survey, this information is given to the IMT at the EOC for their consideration.

Training is a requirement for this exercise, and we are planning two sessions, one on August 18 and one on August 20. A separate notice and registration for the training is on the website. If you have had previous RIS training, you should plan to attend one of these to receive updates on both a new protocol and a manual insert. If this is your first RIS training, you will receive a manual at the training.

The Issaquah Communications Support Team (ICST) will be activated for this exercise and will be an integral part of the RIS. More information will be provided during the training.

Search/Rescue/Triage Exercise (09/20/2026)

Come practice your Search, Rescue, and Triage skills at Blakely Hall. The scenario is that after a large earthquake you and some other CERTs have been tasked with checking out the Blakely Hall building, look for people, and take care of any injuries. Salmon Days is here again! Event Hours are from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4. We hope you will join us in chatting with visitors and sharing about preparedness and the upcoming fall CERT class. Volunteer signups will be coming soon. 2-3 people will be needed for each shift. It's a fun way to connect/reconnect with other CERTs. We hope you can join us!

CERT Basic Training - Fall 2026 at Public Works Operations (10/08/2026)

Registration for the Fall 2026 CERT Basic Training Course at Issaquah Public Works Operations is now open. CERT training is a four and a half week course with two classes per week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and wraps up with a final disaster exercise on the following Saturday. Classes will start on Thursday, October 8 and finish on Thursday, November 5. The final disaster simulation will be on Saturday, November 7 (11:00AM to about 4:00PM) with an optional Next Steps class and graduation on Tuesday, November 10. The classes and final drill will be held at Issaquah Public Works Operations, 670 1st Ave. NE, Issaquah 98027.

At this optional session if you've attended all the sessions and participated in the final exercise, you'll receive your Certificate of Completion and hear about what's next...including how you can learn more, participate in/get involved with other CERT events, and help your neighborhood or the city in the event of an activation.
