This is the first in a series of workshops meant to prepare those CERTs who are interested in emergency communications (EmComm) to learn or refresh their knowledge on how to operate their radios in an emergency situation. It will be mostly hands-on, focused on manual programming of GMRS and/or HAM handheld (HT) radios and recording the steps on an "index card" to which they can refer in an emergency. Target audience are CERTs with an active GMRS or HAM radio license or a serious intention to obtain one. The objective is for CERTs to be able to program their radio with a frequency and tone given to them verbally or on an ICS-205 form. Both simplex and duplex (repeaters) will be covered.

This workshop will prepare CERTs with the background needed for subsequent workshops planned for the rest of 2026 and held on a monthly basis. Workshops will include computer programming of a list of frequencies using CHIRP, Issaquah EmComm SOP (Standard Operating Procedure), net control training, Winlink, APRS and more.

If this interests you, please register by clicking the Register button at the beginning of this email.  Bring your own radio(s) (we will have a few spares available if you don't have one yet) and something on which to take notes.  Email Bob Otis if you have any questions.
